Cross-disciplinary investigation of individual differences in rhythm and language abilities, from cognitive neuroscience to genome-wide approaches

Ciclo di Seminari del Dipartimento di Psicologia

Prof. Reyna L. Gordon, Ph.D., Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center, department of Otolaryngology and department of Psychology, Director of the Music Cognition Lab

As evidence builds that individual differences in musical are significant predictors of children’s speech and language development, many questions remain about the cognitive and biological mechanisms underlying these associations. I will present a series of studies that form a multi-methodological approach to understanding how rhythm sensitivity might lead to individual differences in language acquisition, in children with typical and atypical development. I will then discuss new findings on the genetic basis of rhythm and predictions for shared genetic architecture with language traits.
