My main research focuses on the role of sensorimotor experience in biasing visuospatial attention and in shaping the representation of time. In particular, I investigate how our brains manage to adjust prior directional experience to current information coming from the different senses (such as sight and hearing) to orient our bodies in space and in time. In addition to exploring the basic mechanisms of space-time processing, I am interested in how these develop over the lifespan, and how they are affected by emotion. Understanding how sensorimotor practice may lead to changes in our sense of space and time has far-reaching implications to different areas of cognitive sciences, including linguistics and philosophy, and more generally to provide insights on how culture sculpts cognition.
