As part of the Lifelong Learning Programme Erasmus (LLP-Erasmus), students from the Department of Psychology of the University of Milano-Bicocca can apply for a study period elsewhere in Europe. Students will be able to attend one of the foreign universities with which the Department has signed a bilateral Erasmus agreement for a period of 3 to 12 months, in order to carry out studies equivalent to those in their degree course. This full-time study programme is aimed at both undergraduate and master’s degree students (depending on the university as specified in the International Mobility website.
Access to a study period abroad through the LLP-Erasmus programmes requires students to apply for admission for a specific academic year. The Department of Psychology’s Erasmus committee examines the student’s candidacy on the basis of their language skills, motivations, CV, and academic curriculum during an oral interviews. The committee prepares a ranking of students and assigns those admitted to the Erasmus programme to a specific destination. With the assistance of a Tutor (a member of the Department’s Erasmus Committee), each student compiles a study plan (Learning Agreement): The tutor assists the student with all academic aspects throughout the Erasmus period (before, during, and after the stay abroad), while the University’s International Mobility Offices assists him or her with all paperwork related to their departure and stay abroad.
Students abroad will be considered for all intents and purposes to be enrolled in the foreign university they are attending, to which they will not owe any taxes or payments (for attendance, registration for exams, student enrolment, use of libraries and laboratories, etc.), except, when applicable, for administrative or insurance fees. On the other hands, students must continue to pay taxes and social security payments to the University of Milano-Bicocca for the academic year they are spending abroad.
There are also three additional programmes:
a) The Erasmus Traineeship programme for internships or traineeships in European universities, companies, or research centres. The LLP-Erasmus Traineeship programme makes available scholarships for university students undertaking internships or traineeships with companies or research centres in one of the participating companies. Public or private companies can also be chosen for internships or traineeships.
b) The University’s EXCHANGE programme for students who want to complete an internship in a foreign university or non-European research centre that have underwritten a cooperative framework for international cooperation with the University of Milano-Bicocca that includes the exchange of students (table n.1) or a specific “Host Agreement for Exchange students”.
c) The University’s EXTRA-plus programme that assigns scholarships for a 3-6 month study period abroad (European or extra-European countries) in a leading foreign university or research centres for the preparation of their master’s thesis. Each candidate must identify two thesis advisors: one from the University of Milano-Bicocca who will also serve as the scientific supervisor for the scholarship and the study period abroad, and one from the foreign university the candidate plans to attend. The thesis advisor from the University of Milano-Bicocca will identify his or her counterpart abroad and maintain contacts with them over the course of the programme .
