Seeking treatment utility of clinical assessment: Separately measuring Demoralization and Therapeutic Assessment
giovedi 10 maggio 2012, ore 10,00
Sala Lauree Facoltà di Psicologia (U6/III piano)
This seminar presents two different approaches to making clinical personality assessment more useful for clinical practice. First, I will present a brief overview of the background, aims, and scope of the restructuring of the MMPI-2 (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Revised). It shows how a psychometric approach to can yield clinical distinctions (in the MMPI-2) that are both clinically useful and conceptually relevant. Second, I will present a randomized controlled trial (RCT) on Therapeutic Assessment vs a structured goal focused intervention among patients with severe personality disorders awaiting treatment. This clinical approach yields strong commitment from patient to their subsequent treatments. I will argue that both, quite distinctive approaches, foster the treatment utility of clinical personality assessment in their own way.
